Aims, Scope and Readership Policy
Purpose
The Dyal Singh Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (DSJHSS) is a bilingual, multidisciplinary, peer-reviewed and open-access scholarly journal published by Government Dyal Singh Graduate College, Lahore, Pakistan. The journal provides a forum for rigorous research and critical scholarship in the humanities and social sciences and seeks to connect scholarship from Pakistan and South Asia with wider international debates.
Aims
DSJHSS aims to:
· publish original, methodologically and intellectually sound scholarship;
· encourage disciplinary and interdisciplinary research in the humanities and social sciences;
· provide space for scholarship in both English and Urdu;
· promote dialogue between local, regional and international scholarly perspectives;
· support research that contributes to theory, evidence, interpretation, policy, education, culture and society; and
· make published scholarship immediately and freely available to readers worldwide.
The journal evaluates submissions on scholarly merit, originality, relevance to its scope, ethical compliance and contribution to knowledge. Editorial decisions are not based on an author's nationality, institutional affiliation, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, seniority or other irrelevant personal characteristics.
Scope
The journal welcomes research in areas including, but not limited to:
· literature, language and linguistics;
· cultural studies, and media studies;
· sociology, political science and public administration;
· economics and development studies;
· psychology and education;
· anthropology and gender studies; and
· interdisciplinary research connecting the humanities and social sciences.
DSJHSS particularly welcomes scholarship concerning Pakistan and South Asia, comparative studies, and research that places regional questions in broader conceptual or international contexts.
Research involving human participants in the social sciences or humanities may be considered where it falls within the journal's scope and satisfies applicable ethical requirements.
Types of Content
DSJHSS may publish original research articles, empirical studies, review papers, scholarly book reviews and other academic content approved by the editorial team. Research articles are subject to the journal's peer-review policy. Non-research material is identified by its article type and handled according to the editorial process appropriate to that content.
Languages
The journal accepts manuscripts in English and Urdu. Manuscripts in either language are eligible for consideration on the same scholarly and ethical standards. Authors are expected to provide clear titles, abstracts, keywords and other metadata required by the journal. For the articles in Urdu language should provide Title, Abstract, and Keywords both in English and Urdu versions.
Readership
The primary readership consists of researchers, university teachers, postgraduate and advanced undergraduate students, policy and education professionals, and other readers interested in research in the humanities and social sciences.
Scope Decisions
A manuscript may be declined at initial editorial screening if it falls outside the journal's scope, lacks a clear scholarly contribution, does not meet basic submission requirements, or raises substantial ethical or integrity concerns. A desk decision does not imply a judgment on the author's status or viewpoint.
